F1963 Special Exhibition

Steel-Being

The F1963 Sukcheon Hall, which was opened on December 30, 2017, is a place that generates many issues, as it is considered a successful case of private-government cooperation from a steel wire producing plant to a cultural plant.

Busan Cultural Foundation holds a special exhibition called as a curation program for the second half of the year at Sukcheon Hall, under the theme of "Steel and Human," and the identity of the time-space of the F1963, the exhibition is re-explaining the historical and social significance of steel through relationships between humans, nature, and people.

Section 1

The dark inside of us

The first section of the exhibition , organized by Kim Hyo-Young, highlights the shade of industrialization, which is symbolized by the 'steel.'

While looking at the nature of human desire and fantasy that inspired industrialization and civilization, the exhibition shows human beings have produced social infrastrure and tools by what kind of the perspectives of looking at nature and resources, and what destructive and artificial landscapes they have made with it.

Section 2

The tower we built

Second, , organized by the curator Shin Yanghee, presents the artworks that talk about social labor under capitalism and how art captures the social relationships of labor and capital in our time.

The presented works are composed of three categoriseds: "Work itself." "Workforce(cariable capital), "Fighters."

Two curators and twenty-two artists participatipating in the exhibition add many interpretations to the theme and deliver the message through various media including installation, video, sculpture, painting, photography, and prints.

It is hoped that the exhibition will convey exciting expereiences of looking back and rediscovering the past and traces of the F1963 that has just taken the first step as a cultural space.
